Plasma heating and improvement of lower hybrid current drive efficiency by electron cyclotron waves on EAST

نویسندگان

چکیده

The electron cyclotron (EC) system on EAST consists of four gyrotrons with a frequency 140 GHz (second harmonic the extraordinary mode), each which is expected to deliver maximum power 1.0 MW and be operated at 100-1000 s pulse length. Significant progress in long-pulse operation has been achieved recently, including duration up 1056 EC injected into plasma 0.55 310 1.6 (output by 3 gyrotrons). High temperature ( T e >12 keV) measured Thomson scattering was produced combination lower hybrid (LH) waves. It found that heating effect depends location greatly. By adjusting location, current profile can modified. As consequence increment resonance (ECRH), drive (LHCD) efficiency improved, benefiting for operation. In addition, synergy between LH observed steady-state EAST.

Saturation of electron cyclotron maser by lower-hybrid waves

We perform a numerical study on the quasilinear relaxation of an electron cyclotron maser on the initially dominant mode. We focus thereby on a situation where the initially dominant modes are quasi-electrostatic lower hybrid (lh) waves, which have not been treated in preceding studies. To this end, we chose 0.2 ≤ ωp/ωBe < 0.5 (ωp: plasma-, ωBe: electron cyclotron frequency) and an initial loss...

Electron cyclotron current drive efficiency in an axisymmetric tokamak

The neoclassical transport theory is applied to calculate electron cyclotron current drive (ECCD) efficiency in an axisymmetric tokamak in the low-collisionality regime. The tokamak ordering is used to obtain a system of equations that describe the dynamics of the plasma where the nonlinear ponderomotive (PM) force due to high-power RF waves is included. The PM force is produced around an elect...

PFC/RR-92-13 Current-Drive and Plasma-Formation Experiments on the Versator-Il Tokamak Using Lower-Hybrid and Electron-Cyclotron Waves

During lower-hybrid current-driven (LHCD) tokamak discharges with thermal electron temperature Te ~~ 150 eV, a two-parallel-temperature tail is observed in the electron distribution function. The cold tail extends to parallel energy Ell ~ 4.5 keV with temperature Tthd ~ 1.5 keV, and the hot tail extends to El > 150 keV with Thj' > 40 keV. Fokker-Planck computer simulations suggest the cold tail...

Efficiency of Current Drive by Fast Waves

The Rosenbluth form for the collision operator for a weakly relativistic plasma is derived. The formalism adopted by Antonsen and Chu can then be used to calculate the efficiency of current drive by fast waves in a relativistic plasma. Accurate numerical results and analytic asymptotic limits for the efficiencies are given.

Numerical Studies and Simulation of the Lower Hybrid Waves Current Drive by using Fokker – Planck Equation in NSST and HT-7 Tokamaks

Recent experiments on the spherical tokamak have discovered the conditions to create a powerful plasma and ensure easy shaping and amplification of stability, high bootstrap current and confinement energy. The spherical tours (ST) fusion energy development path is complementary to the tokamak burning plasma experiment such as NSTX and higher toroidal beta regimes and improves the design of a po...
